#040: My Favourite Street Photographs of 2020
Greeting and a belated happy new year to you all. It has been a while, but needless to say, 2020 was a hard year for everyone. My photography exploits have taken a back seat, and unfortunately, at the current state of where we’re at here in Malaysia in 2021, things don’t look like it is going to get any better anytime soon.
We’re still in a form of a lockdown here in Malaysia, what is being called a Movement Control Order (MCO). There are several versions of it and currently, we’re supposedly at the highest level of it, but then again not as bad as it was in March 2020. With the COVID-19 numbers continuing to be relatively high, it is looking like we’ll remain in one form of restrictions in movement, these MCOs, for at least the next half-year or so. That’s just my thoughts on this matter.
I didn’t get out much at all in 2020 to indulge in my usual street photography stuff. I managed a few weekends at the start of the year when things were “normal”, and a few more when restrictions were eased in Q3 of 2020. But that’s about it. It’s all been about staying at home and keeping everyone safe.
There was one major photographic highlight for the year for me though, and that was participating in the KL20X20 project and having my photos “showcased” in its exhibition. It was a fun little photography festival that showcased local talent. We had a brief lull in the COVID-19 infections in August where people were free to come out and take a look, and that was nice.
On to the title of the blog. I’ve always managed to show you my favourite photos that I have taken throughout the past year. It’s been an annual tradition and to keep it going, I’ve selected some of the ones that I feel are the “best” of a small selection. Not being able to go out and take photos like I normally would have this year, limited my chances of getting some truly fun street photographs. In the end, these were the ones that I have selected for your viewing pleasure. In any other year, most of these, I think might not have even made the cut but these are the more interesting ones from this past year.
Here’s hoping that in 2021, we’ll all turn the corner into better things, and be able to get back to some sort of normality, whatever the “new normal” has to offer to us.
